Before the Bowls Begin
Rochester Hills, Michigan | Photography by Buffet Authority
There is a certain calm to the entrance of the Olive Garden in Rochester Hills before the Never-Ending Pasta Bowl begins in earnest.
The waiting area is unusually architectural for a chain restaurant: a long, symmetrical sightline leads beyond the host stand, framed by tall wine displays and textured columns. Overhead, staggered wood beams pull the eye through the room, while oversized glass pendants add warmth without making the space feel overly formal. Even the long red bench in the foreground becomes part of the composition, almost pointing the way forward.
It is a transitional room by design — somewhere between the parking lot and the pasta — but a handsome one. And during Never-Ending Pasta Bowl season, it is also the last moment when everyone arriving still believes they know exactly how much they can eat.
