A familiar reward at the end of a long stretch of trail has disappeared: Timberline Lodge has discontinued its breakfast buffet. The Mount Hood lodge still serves breakfast in the Cascade Dining Room, now with an à-la-carte brunch menu.
The lodge confirmed the buffet’s end by email to The Trek, which reported the change May 28. Timberline said then that it had no plans to bring the buffet back for summer 2026.
A breakfast with a place in trail lore
The Trek found mentions of the buffet in Pacific Crest Trail hiker accounts going back at least two decades. With the lodge beside the trail, waffles, pancakes, eggs, fruit and pastries offered a welcome change from food carried in a pack.
A hot breakfast and the freedom to return for more made a particularly good match for trail hunger. The buffet became part of the Timberline stop itself, giving hikers a substantial meal to anticipate along the way.
There is still breakfast to be had. The Cascade Dining Room lists brunch from 7:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday through Sunday and until noon Monday through Thursday. Dinner service continues as well.
The current menu includes an $18 two-egg breakfast and $22 huckleberry bread-pudding French toast, along with hashes and other egg dishes. Huckleberries still have a place at the table, even if breakfast now comes by the order.
Timberline did not give a reason for ending the buffet in the report. Its statement covered summer 2026 without saying whether the change would be permanent; the current brunch menu continues the lodge’s breakfast service.
