Sushi Oishii Brings Made to Order AYCE to Sterling Heights Michigan and Lists More Cities

The August opening combines sushi mini bowls and ramen under one unlimited dining format.

Sushi Oishii has brought an unusually broad made-to-order AYCE menu to Sterling Heights, Michigan, with sushi, miniature rice bowls, ramen and hibachi sharing the same meal. The restaurant opened in August at 44350 Schoenherr Road, in the former Abuelo’s Mexican Restaurant building.

The business belongs to Ichiban Hospitality, the local restaurant group behind Ichiban sushi and hibachi restaurants across Metro Detroit, according to September 30 reporting by The Detroit News. Its official website now confirms that Sterling Heights is open and lists seven other Michigan cities as coming soon.

Adults ages 12 and older pay $22 for weekday lunch or $33 for dinner, according to the restaurant’s published menu. Children ages 7–11 pay $16, and children 6 and younger eat free. Lunch runs from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on weekdays; dinner pricing applies from 3 p.m. and throughout the weekend.

The restaurant takes walk-ins. The Detroit News describes a 90-minute table limit and continuous ordering, with servers entering the orders while tablets provide a way to browse the menu. There is no à-la-carte option in that reported service model.

Small bowls make room for a broad menu

The kitchen’s miniature portions are part of the appeal. The Detroit News described crab Rangoons arriving in pairs and smaller ramen bowls with a substantial collection of ingredients. That is useful design for an AYCE meal: ordering ramen does not have to mean surrendering the rest of dinner to one enormous bowl.

The official tonkotsu ramen description includes pork-bone broth, chashu pork, bamboo shoots, kikurage mushrooms, a soft-boiled egg, scallions and nori. Seafood udon uses shrimp, imitation crab and vegetables in dashi broth. Mini rice-bowl choices include unagi don, salmon and tuna bowls, and a poke bowl with tuna, salmon and yellowtail.

Elsewhere on the menu are sashimi, a broad nigiri selection, baked mussels, pork gyoza and the Avocado Bomb, which combines fried avocado, krab and cream cheese with eel sauce and spicy mayo. Kitchen dishes extend to Japanese beef curry, stir-fried udon and several hibachi proteins. Earlier reporting notes that fried oysters and soft-shell crab are excluded from lunch.

The restaurant’s expansion list reaches well beyond its first address. Troy, Madison Heights, Royal Oak, Farmington Hills, Lansing, Kalamazoo and Ann Arbor all appear under the website’s coming-soon locations. No street addresses or opening dates accompany those listings, so they remain early plans rather than seven scheduled openings.

For now, Sterling Heights is the operating location. It opens at 11 a.m. weekdays and noon on weekends, closing at 9 p.m. Monday through Thursday and Sunday, and 10 p.m. Friday and Saturday.
