PK Shabu Shabu’s closure in Mesa, Arizona, came with a reported sale and plans to renovate for a reopening under new owners, according to September coverage by The Arizona Republic.
The restaurant at 1832 W. Broadway Road, Suite 108, had gone through several changes to its closing plans. In a September 30 roundup, Republic dining reporter Bahar Anooshahr described an initial restaurant Instagram announcement setting September 6 as the final day, followed by an extension through the end of the month.
A third post, the report said, announced that the business had been sold and would close for about a month while its new owners renovated. The report did not identify the buyer.
The original PK Shabu & Grill opened in the strip in front of AZ International Marketplace at Broadway and Dobson in 2019. Local publication Mouth by Southwest reported its arrival that November, when individual hot pots and a large self-service ingredient buffet were the main attraction.
Its opening lineup offered six broths: house, pork, sukiyaki, miso, spicy and vegetarian. Diners selected meats from an in-house butcher operation, along with seafood and vegetables, then returned to their own pots. There was a separate sauce bar, too.
That 2019 opening report listed lunch at $19.99 and dinner at $29.99, with a $19.99 vegetarian option and a $16.99 rate for children under ten. Those were the opening prices. The original operation also offered beer, soju and sake.
Customers discussing Phoenix-area hot-pot options on Reddit on October 23 continued to describe PK as closed. Their comments also mentioned a possible reopening under another name, but did not identify a buyer or link to a confirmed announcement. The future branding remains unverified.
The restaurant’s existing Instagram account is one place to watch for an update. The reported sale and renovation plan have not yet been followed by a verifiable successor name, reopening day or confirmation that the next operation will continue the same AYCE hot-pot format.
