Shady Maple Smorgasbord has published its October rotation, giving Pennsylvania buffet planners a month of seafood features, changing specialty bars and desserts with very little interest in being understated. Pumpkin cheesecake pudding is already on this week’s schedule.
At the East Earl restaurant, October 5–10 features include a shrimp-and-lobster omelet, broccoli-and-grape salad, a pasta bar with shrimp Alfredo and that pumpkin dessert. As with the rest of the calendar, the dishes are assigned to particular meal periods; the breakfast omelet is not a promise for a dinner visit.
The following week, October 12–17, brings crab cake Benedict, a gyro bar, lobster fried rice and chocolate dirt pudding. October 19–24 includes seafood quiche, a wing-and-appetizer bar, buffalo shrimp and caramel apple cheesecake. The final October 26–31 rotation includes breakfast macaroni and cheese, an Asian cuisine bar, crab-and-shrimp lo mein and cinnamon roll cheesecake.
Apple cider appears throughout the month, while cinnamon-roll bread pudding and seafood soup du jour are listed for lunch and dinner. At a buffet with this many options, reading the dessert schedule in advance is less a character flaw than sensible administration.
A weekday takeout offer follows the meal
Shady Maple is also advertising 50% off prepared buffet takeout during October, Monday through Friday, with a dine-in meal purchase. The offer applies to lunch and dinner takeout and cannot be combined with other discounts.
This is a discounted purchase of prepared food: diners fill a container, have it weighed and pay for it. It does not turn the dine-in AYCE price into an unlimited take-home arrangement. The separate purchase is the part to remember when imagining tomorrow’s lunch.
The restaurant’s current adult prices start at $14.99 for weekday breakfast and $20.99 for weekday lunch. Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday dinners are $27.99; Tuesday’s seafood dinner is $30.99. A 12% service fee and applicable tax are additional.
Saturday has its own pricing: $17.99 breakfast, $29.99 early-bird dining from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and $32.99 afterward. Checking the meal period is worthwhile before turning a menu-calendar favorite into a road trip.
At 129 Toddy Drive, Shady Maple operates Monday through Saturday and closes Sundays. The restaurant describes itself as the United States’ largest smorgasbord, with 200 feet of buffet offerings. October’s calendar gives those feet a few new reasons to require a second lap.
