Tucson’s former Takamatsu restaurant is headed toward a different kind of abundance. Mizuya Buffet is advertising a coming-soon Asian buffet at 5532 E Speedway Boulevard, with construction imagery and proposed pricing already on its website.
No opening date has been announced, and the website still identifies the project as coming soon. Tucson remodeling records and a completed property sale help explain how the former Japanese and Korean restaurant address reached this next stage.
A new buffet at a longtime restaurant property
Takamatsu previously served Japanese and Korean food there. A January 27 Tucson community post reported its closure after more than 30 years, giving the new project a connection to a restaurant property with a long local history.
Real Estate Daily News reported May 21 that the restaurant property had sold May 11 for $1.747 million. An adjacent house sold for another $200,000, bringing the combined transaction to $1.947 million. The report identified the sellers as Junghoon Properties and the Koga family and described the buyer’s plans for an Asian buffet.
The family had listed the property in 2025 as it prepared to leave the restaurant business, according to that report. The buyer was not named.
A City of Tucson remodeling application, submitted May 5, describes work on the existing restaurant. The record includes review and revision activity into July, providing a documented trail for the planned conversion.
The proposed menu reaches well beyond sushi
Mizuya’s published plans cover Asian hot dishes, sushi, seafood, salad, fruit and desserts. The seafood list includes items such as oysters, crawfish, scallops, clams and mussels, with crab legs also promoted. It is an ambitious proposed spread for diners who like their buffet decisions to require a second lap.
Advertised adult lunch is $14.99 Monday through Saturday from 10:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday–Thursday dinner is listed at $19.99, while Friday and Saturday dinner, Sunday service and holidays are advertised at $23.99. The site also posts age-based children’s prices, a senior discount and a $2.99 refillable beverage.
Those are advance operating details, subject to the final opening menu. For now, Mizuya belongs on the coming-soon list, with the former Takamatsu address and a documented remodeling plan giving Tucson buffet watchers something specific to follow.
