Lair House Buffet & Grill plans its grand opening Saturday, October 10, in Mount Vernon, Kentucky, bringing an all-you-can-eat Southern buffet to John Lair’s historic home in Renfro Valley. Country music history is quite a backdrop for a plate of home cooking.
The restaurant is at 2520 Richmond Street, near the Kentucky Music Hall of Fame. Lair founded the Renfro Valley entertainment complex, and his former home has also served as an event venue. Its latest use is being promoted with an AYCE hot bar, salad bar and homemade dessert bar.
Soft openings before the celebration
The road to opening has taken a few turns. Tourism originally announced a Valentine’s Day soft dinner for February 14, then canceled it after weather delayed preparations. Later promotions included a September 18–20 soft-opening weekend and more service on October 3 and 4, giving diners several opportunities to visit ahead of the grand celebration.
Southern comfort on the early menus
Earlier soft-opening menus shared by Rolling Stoves Food Truck offer a taste of the restaurant’s Southern approach. One restaurant-branded Friday menu listed pot roast, seasoned chicken and gravy bake, maple ham, hash-brown casserole, mashed potatoes and buttered biscuits. That is a lineup for anyone who takes the comfort part of comfort food seriously.
The same menu advertised salad and homemade dessert bars every night, allowing a little room for greens and, with sensible plate planning, something sweet.
For Saturday’s celebration, the grand-opening announcement from Mount Vernon Rockcastle Tourism sets the ribbon cutting for 11 a.m., with buffet service beginning at 11:30.
