Rapid City’s west side has a new buffet in service. King Buffet is now serving customers at 707 Mountain View Road in Baken Park, taking over the former restaurant portion of The Park complex after a summer build-out.
The opening appears to have happened quietly. Local diners reported service by September 27, with one September 28 customer describing the restaurant as still in a soft-opening phase with a more limited selection than eventually expected. King Buffet itself has not published a formal opening date, so the safest marker is that it was operating by Sunday.
Sushi, Seafood and a Mongolian Grill
Exterior signage first spotted in August advertised “Sushi, Mongolian, Seafood,” and early diners have described the same broad setup: a large Chinese buffet, sushi, seafood and a Mongolian grill. That combination puts King Buffet squarely in the modern big-buffet lane, where steam-table standards share the room with a build-your-own grill and a sushi counter.
Pricing is still one of the pieces not ready for print. Early customer reports conflict enough that Buffet Authority is not treating any figure as confirmed. The same goes for regular hours and the size of the final lineup. If this is indeed a soft opening, those are exactly the details likely to settle after the first few days.
A Restaurant-Space Reset Inside The Park
The address has its own recent restaurant history. The Park opened in November 2022 as part of M.G. Oil Company’s redevelopment of Baken Park, combining a restaurant, casino and the 6,000-square-foot 707 Nightlife venue. The larger complex has not gone away: The Park 707 continues to operate the sports bar, casino, nightlife and events business at the same address.
King Buffet therefore is not simply replacing the entire venue. It is a new food operation moving into the restaurant portion of a complex whose other pieces remain active – a slightly unusual reuse that can make the address look like both an opening and a continuation depending on which door you walk through.
The construction trail also backs up the change. Rapid City inspection records show 2026 activity at 707 Mountain View Road that includes commercial hood and building/mechanical final inspections, matching the summer reports that the space was being reworked for the new restaurant.
For now, the important part is straightforward: Rapid City has another full buffet in play, and the west side gains a format that appears designed to cover more ground than a basic Chinese steam table. What remains to be learned is the final price, hours, full selection – and when King Buffet considers the soft-opening period officially over.
