Jiang Niu BBQ has added another way to cook dinner at its Chinatown and Lincoln Park restaurants: Northern Chinese copper hot pot, available alongside its existing all-you-can-eat barbecue.
The restaurant’s rollout announcement identifies the two participating Chicago locations as 2300 S. Archer Avenue and 1523 N. Kingsbury Street. Both have also added self-service ingredient coolers, so diners can select items before cooking them at the table.
The hot-pot offering has six homemade broths, with thinly sliced meats, greens, mushrooms, tofu, noodles and dumplings among the ingredients. Guests can make repeat trips to the coolers, and the restaurant also describes a hot-appetizer mini buffet and sauce bar.
Two cooking formats for $39.99
The all-day, everyday combination of barbecue and hot pot is $39.99. Barbecue alone and hot pot alone are each $36.99, making the added format a $3 difference at the regular published prices.
Monday through Thursday from noon to 4 p.m., the advertised happy-hour prices are $33.99 for the combination and $31.44 for either format alone.
Jiang Niu’s barbecue identity already mixes traditions. The operators describe roots in Dongbei, northeastern China, and a menu combining that region’s grilling with Korean barbecue. Fruit-based marinades contribute sweetness, while garlic and chili are part of the seasoning approach.
The existing grill menu includes beef, pork, lamb, chicken, seafood and vegetables, cooked on smokeless tabletop grills. Adding copper hot pot lets the same outing move between grilled food and ingredients cooked in broth, with each diner building the meal from repeated selections.
The Chinatown restaurant was among the January 2021 openings documented by Eater Chicago.
Orland Park is the next location named for the copper hot-pot and cooler additions, listed as coming soon in 2026. Jiang Niu already lists its restaurant at 14651 S. La Grange Road; the pending development is the upgraded offering there, not the debut of the restaurant itself.
