Hot Pot Legend appears to have closed permanently at One Loudoun in Ashburn, Virginia, according to an October 10 report by The Burn. The local outlet found locked doors and a dark restaurant on Saturday afternoon, alongside several other signs that the Szechuan hot-pot operation had ended.
The Burn reported that Google marked the restaurant permanently closed, its website was unavailable and calls reached voicemail. The outlet also said One Loudoun’s landlord had listed the 5,300-square-foot space as available for lease. An owner statement, precise final service date and reason for the apparent closure have not been announced.
The restaurant at 20462 Exchange Street began its soft opening January 16, 2021. Its arrival had been in the works since at least October 2019, when The Burn reported the lease for the former Aggio restaurant space and described Ashburn as Hot Pot Legend’s second U.S. location after Rockville, Maryland.
A substantial broth roster
The opening-era menu went well beyond a single spicy pot. Local preview coverage listed Sichuan spicy, pork-bone, kimchi, mushroom, chicken and spicy beef-tallow broths, with beef, lamb, pork meatballs and organ meats among the choices for the pot.
Shrimp, mussels, squid and cuttlefish balls joined vegetables, mushrooms and tofu, with sauce options completing the spread. It was the sort of menu where deciding what to cook next could occupy as much attention as the conversation.
The restaurant’s all-you-can-eat offering is documented in One Loudoun’s third-anniversary promotion, which ran February 15 through March 31, 2024. That listing advertised a $35-per-person AYCE option with a free appetizer of the day. The amount is a historical promotional price, rather than a confirmed rate from the restaurant’s final weeks.
The space had already hosted two Bryan Voltaggio concepts before Hot Pot Legend arrived. Family Meal became Aggio, and The Burn reported Aggio’s closure in July 2018. Hot Pot Legend then gave the corner restaurant another chapter, trading the earlier Italian concept for broth, seafood and an extensive hot-pot menu.
A replacement tenant has not been announced for the space.
