A familiar Boise buffet address is getting ready for its next chapter. Henya Sushi and Japanese Buffet is planned for the former Great Wall Chinese Restaurant on Overland Road, with AYCE signs already posted and a new sushi bar in the renovation plans.
The property at 10398 W. Overland Road housed Great Wall for more than 45 years. The restaurant opened in 1980 and closed August 31, 2025, after its lease ended, according to the Idaho Statesman.
A sushi bar for the old Great Wall
BoiseDev reported plans for an 8,022-square-foot restaurant and an estimated $85,000 in improvements. Along with the sushi bar, the work includes kitchen-equipment upgrades.
Henya’s signs promise an AYCE Japanese Buffet, which would bring unlimited dining back to the property with a different focus. A full menu and opening prices have not been announced.
The project also has a connection to Nara Ramen, though Nara’s representative has described it as help with the renovation. BoiseDev reported that Henya Sushi and Japanese Buffet LLC was registered September 8, 2025, with Baoyun Deng and Xinlian Chi listed as governors. Deng, who is associated with Nara, was also named on the permit application.
Nara regional manager Stephanie Nguyen told BoiseDev that Deng was helping remodel the restaurant rather than owning it. The Statesman likewise reported that the assistance did not involve a financial stake, leaving some questions about the ownership arrangement.
July coverage mentioned hopes for a late-summer opening and, in the Statesman, a two-to-three-month timetable. Neither was a firm date. For now, the sushi bar and buffet signs give former Great Wall diners a look at what is planned for the building, while Henya’s opening day remains unannounced.
