Golden Corral in Independence is preparing for its last Sunday buffet. October 4 is the final day of operation for the restaurant at 19120 E. Valley View Parkway, according to the Kansas City Star, ending a run of approximately 15 years.
Two managers confirmed the closing plans to the newspaper on Friday, October 2. The Star’s report put the restaurant’s tenure at about 15 years based on property records and newspaper archives.
A reason for the closure was not given. Golden Corral’s corporate office had not responded to the newspaper’s request for comment when its story was published.

The building is already being offered for sale or lease through Ferguson Properties. The broker’s listing describes a 12,767-square-foot restaurant on 2.8 acres and gives its construction year as 2011.
That leaves a sizable restaurant space in the Eastland Center commercial area, with access to Interstates 70 and 470. The listing does not identify a next tenant.
For regulars who want to keep Golden Corral in their meal rotation, there are other metro-area stops. Employees at 8800 N. Skyview Avenue in Kansas City, Missouri, and 13440 S. Blackbob Road in Olathe, Kansas, told the Star they knew of no closing plans at their restaurants.
Both appear in Golden Corral’s location directory. The Kansas City restaurant’s menu carries the familiar comfort-food spread: fried chicken, pot roast, meatloaf and dinner sirloin, with yeast rolls and honey butter along the way. Banana pudding and fruit cobbler leave something for the dessert plate, too.
