Golden Corral has closed its Bristol, Virginia, restaurant at 3104 Lee Highway, ending buffet service at the familiar Exit 7 address off Interstate 81.
WCYB documented the closure October 21, photographing a notice posted on the restaurant’s door. The notice told customers that the Kingsport location remains open. Reporter Kristen Quon described the Bristol shutdown as permanent in her own announcement.
The station reported that it had contacted Golden Corral’s corporate office for more information. A reason for the closure was not included in the report, and the exact final day of meal service has not been established. October 21 is the date the posted closure was publicly documented.
Local radio coverage on October 22 also reported the door notice and the continued operation of Kingsport. Golden Corral’s current official restaurant directory supports that distinction: Kingsport remains listed, while Bristol does not appear.
The Kingsport restaurant is at 1910 North Eastman Road, with dine-in, to-go and delivery service listed by the company. Its phone number is 423-247-7810. For Bristol regulars looking to keep a Golden Corral meal in their plans, that is the alternative specifically named on the closure notice.
The loss is a local one within a national buffet chain whose history began with a family steakhouse in Fayetteville, North Carolina, in 1973. Golden Corral’s current format brings grilled-to-order steaks together with familiar buffet dishes such as pot roast and fried chicken, giving different dinner preferences plenty of room at the same table.
The Bristol news also follows Shanghai Chinese Restaurant’s retirement announcement. That State Street restaurant set October 18 as its final service after more than 30 years, with owners Ying and Xian retiring. Lunch buffets and dinner buffets on selected days had been part of its long run.
Those are separate restaurant farewells, but both matter to Bristol’s buffet regulars. Shanghai’s planned retirement closure and Golden Corral’s posted shutdown leave fewer familiar local addresses for an unlimited meal.
