Thirty-seven grills are planned for the tables at GogiHaus Korean BBQ, an all-you-can-eat restaurant taking shape in downtown Milwaukee, WI. Partners David Knight Johnson and Brian Lee are aiming to begin serving in January 2027.
The restaurant is planned for 275 West Wisconsin Avenue, Suite 115, beside 3rd Street Market Hall. Diners will cook successive orders of meat at their tables, with banchan and appetizers alongside the barbecue.
One core menu and a soft serve finish
The partners plan a single core AYCE tier, with brisket, chicken, pork and marinated beef among the selections. In an OnMilwaukee interview, Knight Johnson put the anticipated price around $35 per person. The menu and price are still being finalized.
Specialty meats such as Wagyu would be available as optional additions. The plan lets a diner add a particular cut while the table orders from the core barbecue menu.
A soft-serve station is planned for dessert. After a meal spent tending the grill, the final course will ask considerably less of the table.
Longtime friends take over a downtown space
Knight Johnson and Lee previously worked together at Ono, a sushi restaurant in Kenosha. Knight Johnson’s background includes civil engineering and restaurant ownership; Lee’s hospitality experience includes Chicago’s Mako.
Their restaurant’s name pairs the Korean word for meat with the German spelling of house, connecting the barbecue concept with Milwaukee’s German heritage.
The space most recently housed 3rd Street Market Hall’s Starlight Room event venue. Before that, it was an Applebee’s, which closed in 2016, according to the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.
RINKA is designing the dining room and bar. The GogiHaus website also promises cocktails and beer towers, with a mailing list for buildout, menu and opening updates. January remains the opening goal, with a firm first day of service still to be announced.
