Ginza SI, a $33.95 AYCE Sushi Restaurant on Staten Island, Has Closed

The Bulls Head restaurant opened in 2024 in a space with a long Japanese-dining history.

Ginza SI has closed at 10 Akron St. in Staten Island’s Bulls Head neighborhood, ending a relatively short run for a Japanese restaurant that included a substantial all-you-can-eat sushi option.

Local restaurant publication WhereYouEat reported the closure on Sept. 26. Ginza’s AYCE offering was priced at $33.95 and extended beyond a few basic rolls, with sushi and appetizer selections built into the unlimited format.

That makes this more than the loss of another neighborhood sushi counter. For Staten Island diners who track the shrinking and shifting map of unlimited sushi, Ginza represented a full-service AYCE option at a price point that remained well below many of the premium hot-pot and Korean-barbecue experiences now occupying the same dining niche.

A Short Run in a Familiar Japanese Restaurant Space

Ginza opened in March 2024 after a renovation of the former Sanma restaurant. Before Sanma, the same Akron Street space had housed Mitoushi of Staten Island, giving the address a longer history of Japanese dining than Ginza’s two-and-a-half-year lifespan might suggest.

At the time of Ginza’s opening, local reporting described new management and an effort to revive some of the social, drinks-and-specials atmosphere associated with the earlier Mitoushi era. The restaurant ultimately developed its own identity around sushi, sashimi, specialty rolls, hibachi and the $33.95 AYCE menu.

What Comes Next at 10 Akron Street Is Less Clear

The exact final day of Ginza service and the reason for the closure have not been publicly established. Ginza’s own website also remains online, making it a poor guide to the restaurant’s current status.

There is one additional wrinkle. Sanma-branded web and online-ordering pages are currently active using the same 10 Akron St. address. That could indicate a return, or it could simply be digital infrastructure that was never fully retired. Without a current announcement from the operator, it would be premature to declare Sanma back.

What is clear is that Ginza’s unlimited sushi option is gone for now. What replaces it — and whether abundance dining remains part of the next version of this unusually persistent Japanese restaurant address — is still unresolved.
