The Sunday breakfast buffet at Falls Overlook Cafe in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, has ended for the season, according to Pigeon605’s October 5 restaurant roundup. Anyone planning a weekend around that particular breakfast should adjust the itinerary before setting out for Falls Park.
The cafe itself continues regular service. At 825 N. Weber Avenue, it remains a place to eat overlooking the falls; the seasonal change concerns the Sunday buffet, rather than the whole restaurant. Losing a buffet and losing the place that serves it are very different disappointments.
This year’s breakfast program began with a modest test. SiouxFalls.Business reported in April that three trial Sundays in March had led to a regular Sunday buffet. The spring schedule ran from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., with reservations recommended.
At that point, the advertised price was $18 for adults and $9 for children ages 4 through 12. Children younger than 4 could eat free with an adult purchase. Those were the published spring terms, rather than newly confirmed prices for another buffet season.
The setting gives this breakfast stop its particular appeal. The city’s cafe profile places it in a restored 1908 hydroelectric plant on the east bank of the Big Sioux River. Experience Sioux Falls identifies Stensland Family Farms as the operator and lists sandwiches, soups, salads and ice cream among its regular offerings.
The cafe’s current posted hours are 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday, Tuesday and Thursday; 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday; and 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday. It is closed Wednesday. Sunday visitors can still plan a cafe stop, even though the earlier breakfast-buffet window has gone away. And the view and cared for meals continue to make very compelling reasons to re-visit.
The October report does not identify the final buffet service date, and no restart date has been announced in the sources reviewed. For now, the falls remain on the itinerary. The unlimited breakfast potentially awaits a future calendar entry.
