Domi Buffet announced October 8 as opening day at 1349 NW 23rd Avenue in Gainesville, Florida, bringing sushi, hibachi and seafood to the former Eastern Market space. The Asian grocery address is getting a second act with considerably less cooking required of its customers.
Buffet prices and the dining window
The restaurant’s opening announcement and flyer put weekday lunch at $16.99 from 11 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Dinner is $22.99 from 3:30 p.m. until closing, and Saturday and Sunday are $22.99 all day. The dine-in buffet has a 90-minute limit, drinks cost extra and parties of six or more incur a 15 percent gratuity.
Senior rates are $15.99 for lunch and $21.99 for dinner. Children’s pricing follows height, with children under three feet eating free; the posted height chart is the one to consult when planning a family visit.
A new chapter for Eastern Market
The building had spent some time quiet: The Independent Florida Alligator pictured the dormant Eastern Market earlier this year. Domi was promoting its arrival by September 14, then announced the October opening date on October 3.
The flyer uses the name Do Mi Buffet and identifies the business as Sushi & Hibachi Grill, with those two attractions joining the broader buffet and advertised seafood. The address keeps its Asian-food connection, and Gainesville’s buffet crowd gets a new opening to put on the lunch calendar.
