Chubby Group is planning nine new restaurants across the Bay Area, CA, bringing more Wagyu, tabletop grills and pots of broth to Oakland, the Peninsula and the South Bay.
The Los Angeles-based company’s expansion spans five brands, according to a September 29 San Francisco Business Times report shared on Chubby Group’s own site. The restaurants are at different stages of development, with opening dates still to come.
Four Wagyu Factory restaurants lead the list
Wagyu Factory is planned for Mountain View, Oakland, Palo Alto and San Mateo. The brand offers barbecue, shabu-shabu and combined formats across its locations, putting Japanese beef at the center of a meal diners cook themselves.
Chubby Cattle BBQ accounts for two more projects, in Milpitas and Santa Clara. Its focus is Wagyu and tabletop grilling, with successive orders of meat keeping the grill occupied through the meal.
The other three projects take the group in different directions: Chubby Skewers in Fremont, beef-tongue specialist Chubby Tan at Santa Clara’s Westfield Valley Fair, and Mama Xita BBQ in Cupertino.
Several brands already have Bay Area tables
The group’s location directory already includes Mikiya in Santa Clara and San Mateo, Chubby Cattle BBQ in Pleasanton, and Wagyu Master in San Jose. The expansion adds new brands and addresses to that regional presence.
The wider portfolio includes Niku X and The X Pot, but the Bay Area plans are spread among several concepts with different menus and ways of serving the meal. A Wagyu Factory visit and a skewer dinner will ask different things of the table.
For now, the nine projects remain plans. Final menus, prices and opening announcements will arrive restaurant by restaurant.
