EXPERIENCE
Paradise Reef is the breakfast and brunch restaurant at South Shore Harbour Resort in League City. It serves a daily morning buffet and a separate Sunday brunch, when made-to-order omelets, a changing spread and live music give the room more of a weekend occasion. The restaurant is open to people coming for a meal as well as overnight guests, so a resort breakfast can be a local outing, too.
The long window wall is a large part of its appeal. Daylight reaches the tables, with palms and the exterior railing close to the glass and the waterfront setting beyond. Dark tables and upholstered chairs give the dining room a settled, sit-down character. It is easy to understand the attraction of gathering here for brunch: the outlook gives the table something pleasant beyond the next trip to the buffet.
Sunday’s food selection has room for a fuller meal than eggs alone, bringing breakfast dishes together with seafood and other savory choices as the menu changes. That makes the later service the more interesting occasion for a group with different ideas about brunch.
Daily breakfast buffet runs from 7am to 10am; Sunday brunch follows from 10:30am to 1pm. Live music belongs to the Sunday offering, and an optional mimosa is advertised separately. The appeal is the combination of a resort dining room, a waterfront outlook and a Sunday meal that leaves time for company.
FOOD
Sunday brunch at Paradise Reef begins with the made-to-order omelet station, but its appeal extends beyond breakfast. The changing spread has included peel-and-eat shrimp, blackened redfish and seasonal salads alongside eggs, breakfast meats and pastries. Those are representative selections from the rotating Sunday brunch menu, rather than a promise of the same menu every week.
The shrimp make the cold seafood selection a meal in its own right for anyone who arrives thinking more about lunch than breakfast. Seasonal mixed salads accompany that part of the spread, while blackened redfish provides a hot fish entree. The contrast between cold shrimp and a seasoned fish dish gives seafood a more interesting role than an incidental addition to the eggs.
Eggs Benedict has joined the omelets among the breakfast choices. Bacon and grilled sausage supply the familiar accompaniments, so a table can include a traditional breakfast plate and a seafood-centered lunch without ordering two different meals. The omelet station remains the clearest continuing feature; its current fillings are the choices to make when you reach the cook.
Breads and breakfast pastries round out the Sunday selection, with varieties changing alongside the savory food. A pastry is a pleasant finish after shrimp or eggs, particularly when the point of brunch is to linger over the meal rather than hurry through it. Sunday live music contributes to that more leisurely occasion.
The earlier South Shore Breakfast Buffet is a separate daily offering, with coffee and juice included. It should not be confused with the later Sunday brunch or its broader representative food selection. The advertised mimosa is an optional addition. For the omelet station, changing brunch spread and music, Sunday is the service to plan around.
