EXPERIENCE
Gyu-Kaku turns all-you-can-eat dining into a tabletop activity rather than a trip to a buffet line. The Cincinnati location at The Kenwood Collection is built around smokeless grills set into the center of the tables, so the meal advances in a steady cycle: order, grill, share, clear space, then start another round. That keeps everyone engaged with the food and with one another; even a large menu becomes manageable because it arrives in repeated rounds rather than all at once.
The room gives that activity a polished, contemporary frame. Cream-toned booths, warm wood partitions, dark tabletops and large pendant fixtures keep the space comfortable without turning it into a theme restaurant. The grills are the visual center of the room, and the partitions break the dining area into smaller pockets while preserving the lively energy that comes with several tables cooking at once.
The AYCE format runs for 90 minutes, with last call 20 minutes before the end and two items served per person at a time. Plates of marinated meat arrive, the grill fills, and the table quickly becomes a working landscape of tongs, sauces, rice and dishes waiting their turn. The format rewards attention more than speed: thin cuts can finish quickly, thicker pieces need more patience, and a fresh round is rarely far away.
That shared labor is the restaurant’s real personality. Gyu-Kaku is at its best as a social meal where the table itself becomes the event, whether the group is comparing marinades, negotiating grill space or deciding what deserves a second round. The abundance is substantial, but it never feels passive. You are continually cooking your way through it.
FOOD
The all-you-can-eat menu is organized in three ascending tiers: Premium with 45 items, Ultimate with 65 and Supreme with 80. The structure matters because Gyu-Kaku’s food identity is not simply more meat at each level. Premium already establishes the core yakiniku experience with beef, pork, chicken, shrimp, vegetables and small plates; Ultimate adds several cuts and prepared dishes that make the menu feel more distinctly Gyu-Kaku; Supreme pushes into the most elaborate sides, seafood and premium beef.
Start with the marinades, because they are as important as the cuts. Miso is sweet and rich; Sweet Soy Tare layers soy with pear juice and ginger; Shio leans on garlic, salt, soy and sesame oil; Umakara brings sweet-savory heat; and Spicy Jalapeño Miso adds a sharper kick. Premium makes it easy to compare those personalities across Toro Beef, Yaki-Shabu Beef, New York Steak, Bistro Hanger Steak, Angus Beef Rib and pork belly. The thin Yaki-Shabu is the quick-cooking end of the beef section, while the steak cuts create a different texture and pace.
Ultimate is the tier where the beef selection becomes notably more ambitious. Harami Skirt Steak in miso is the signature addition, joined by Beef Tongue, Filet Mignon, Premium Sirloin and Kalbi Chuck Rib. Harami is Gyu-Kaku’s best-selling 21-day-aged skirt steak; Beef Tongue introduces a classic Japanese barbecue cut; and Filet Mignon brings lean, bite-sized tenderloin into the rotation. Some premium meats carry single-order limits within the AYCE rules, so the tier still has a hierarchy even after the price is fixed.
Supreme adds Prime Kalbi Short Rib, putting marbled USDA prime beef into the selection, but the jump is just as interesting away from the grill. Spicy Tuna Volcano, Chili & Yuzu Roast Beef, Fried Calamari and Chili Mayo Fried Shrimp give the table ready-to-eat detours between meat rounds. Garlic Noodle with Chicken and Goma Negi Shio Ramen make the top tier feel closer to a full restaurant menu than a barbecue list with sides attached.
The prepared dishes are useful even at Premium. Japanese Chicken Karaage, Fried Pork Gyoza, Napa Kimchi, Spicy Addicting Cucumber, Cheese Corn Butter and the Half Gyu-Kaku Salad can occupy the table while the first beef cooks. Vegetables are not an afterthought: shishito peppers, garlic mushrooms, zucchini, broccoli and spinach bring changes in texture, and shrimp can go onto the grill in either garlic or Spicy Jalapeño Miso marinades.
Ultimate broadens the middle of the meal with Gyu-Sushi, Beef Sukiyaki Bibimbap, Garlic Fried Rice, Spicy Umami Japanese Chicken Karaage and Shrimp & Mushroom Ahijo. The Garlic Fried Rice combines green and white onions, egg yolk, sesame seeds and garlic chips without consuming grill space. Gyu-Sushi is roast beef sushi finished with Japanese shoyu barbecue sauce and kuki wasabi, a particularly clear expression of the restaurant’s Japanese barbecue identity.
Dessert stays playful. Premium includes vanilla or green tea ice cream and tableside s’mores; Ultimate adds mochi ice cream; Supreme adds Chocolate Lava Cake with ice cream and Gyu-Kaku Boba Mochi Ice Cream. By then the hard part is not finding one more thing to order. It is deciding whether the grill has earned another round before the sweets arrive.
