EXPERIENCE

Friday supper at George’s Family Restaurant has a very definite assignment: keep the pollock coming. This Northridge diner on North Dixie Drive offers all-you-can-eat fish on Fridays from 4pm, with table service and a familiar steak-fries-and-coleslaw dinner. Settle into a booth, order the fish dinner, and let an old-fashioned neighborhood restaurant take care of supper.

George’s has been part of this stretch of Dayton since 1994, though the building’s restaurant story goes back much further. Charburger served the Dixie Strip in the 1950s; later occupants included Dixie Family Inn and Farmer Jacks. The name over the door changed, but the place kept feeding the neighborhood. That history gives the Friday fish tradition a fitting address, without requiring anyone to be a regular to appreciate it.

The yellow siding, deep red trim and big George’s sign make a cheerful introduction. Inside, the appeal is the small-diner kind: booths, a broad comfort-food menu, and room at the table for somebody who would rather have breakfast for dinner. That last person can order separately while the fish enthusiast concentrates on Friday’s business. A family meal needn’t become a committee meeting over one shared appetite.

George’s particular pleasure is having a simple Friday ritual waiting at the end of the week. Give supper some breathing room, especially if another helping of fish is part of the plan. The diner has spent decades feeding this neighborhood; a comfortable seat and a familiar dinner are entirely in character.

FOOD

George’s Friday dinner is all-you-can-eat broasted pollock with steak fries and house-made coleslaw. The fish is the unlimited main course, served in repeat portions at the table. Give supper time for a refill to come through the kitchen and server; this is a sit-down fish dinner with its familiar potato-and-slaw accompaniments.

Broasting has been part of George’s menu since 2010, when the diner added Genuine Broaster Chicken, broasted fish and broasted pork chops. Friday’s pollock belongs to that established part of the kitchen. Companions can order a different dinner or all-day breakfast separately, while the fish fan stays with the Friday offer.

FOOD HIGHLIGHTS
