EXPERIENCE

At Frisch’s Big Boy, the breakfast bar is a familiar part of the morning: a self-serve spread alongside the regular menu, with the freedom to choose your own combination and return for another helping. It suits a chain built around everyday family dining, familiar food and a meal that doesn’t require dressing up.

Frisch’s is the Cincinnati-rooted Big Boy brand, with restaurants in Ohio, Kentucky and Indiana. Its big red name belongs to a particular family-restaurant tradition, where a casual breakfast can mean sitting together over a full plate rather than grabbing something on the way out. The bar brings that setting together with the choice and flexibility of serving yourself.

Breakfast also has a second life in the evening. Brupper is the wonderfully plainspoken name for it: breakfast for supper, served from the bar at participating restaurants. It carries the appeal of the morning spread into dinnertime, offering another way to enjoy breakfast favorites without watching the clock for the end of morning service.

The evening lineup goes beyond Brupper. Participating restaurants also offer dinner bars, and some add a Taco Bar to their weekly schedule. The combination of programs and serving days differs by location, so one restaurant’s breakfast-for-dinner night may be another’s taco night. These are local schedules, not a promise that every Frisch’s puts out the same supper.

The practical pleasure is a seated restaurant meal with a self-serve bar as its focus. Depending on the service, toppings and cold selections can broaden the plate beyond the familiar eggs-and-potatoes combination. Choose the location and bar service you want, then confirm its serving hours: the restaurant’s opening time alone won’t tell you when the breakfast, Brupper or dinner bar is ready.

FOOD

Breakfast is the clearest food reference point for Frisch’s bars. Eggs, bacon, sausage, biscuits and potatoes belong to the established breakfast-bar lineup, with Spicy Spuds supplying the familiar seasoned potato choice. The evening Brupper program carries that breakfast idea into supper. Local selections can change, but it is a breakfast meal at heart rather than an invitation to order the whole regular menu repeatedly.

The toppings are worth a look. Cheddar, jalapeño slices, salsa and pico de gallo offer a savory, pepper-led set of additions. Avocado, cilantro and sour cream add other possibilities for the breakfast plate.

French toast sticks supply the sweet breakfast choice, with pancake syrup and fruit topping alongside. They can follow the eggs and potatoes or share a plate with them. A little syrup at supper is entirely reasonable when Brupper is the occasion.

The cold side brings fresh fruit and cottage cheese, plus romaine, cucumber, diced tomato, broccoli and sliced black olives. Balsamic and ranch dressings go with the greens; roasted corn and pickled onion add further choices.

The Thursday Taco Bar is a separate supper at Liberty-Fairfield and West Hamilton. Eastgate and West Chester list Thursday–Sunday Dinner Bar service. Those evening selections have their own local menus and serving hours, so check the chosen restaurant’s current spread.
