EXPERIENCE
Deccan Bawarchi brings Hyderabadi-focused Indian dining to Orchard Lake Road in Farmington Hills, with buffet service at lunch and dinner. Biryani is central to the restaurant’s identity, but the buffet extends into curries, vegetarian cooking, Indian snacks and sweets. The evening offering also makes it an option beyond the usual Indian lunch-buffet outing.
The dining room is arranged around a long buffet island, with booth seating on either side. Warm-colored beams, patterned upholstery and pendant lighting give the space its distinctive look. The counter sits within the main dining area, keeping the buffet and seating together rather than separating them into different rooms.
Individual menu orders offer another way to enjoy the kitchen’s cooking. For buffet diners, lunch and dinner have separate service windows, and weekend selections can bring additional variety. Check the buffet service for your chosen day and meal before making a special trip.
The range is particularly useful for a table with different interests in Indian food. Someone drawn to the Hyderabadi biryanis can share the outing with a diner more interested in curries or vegetarian dishes, while the snacks and sweets broaden the meal beyond those main preparations.
FOOD
Deccan Bawarchi’s buffet gives its Hyderabadi rice dishes a substantial place within a broader Indian meal. Meat biryanis and chicken preparations share the selection with vegetarian cooking and street-food snacks, followed by several styles of dessert. Lunch, dinner and weekend spreads can differ, so the dishes here represent the buffet’s range rather than a fixed menu for every service.
Chicken and goat biryani are joined by vegetable biryani. The restaurant’s Hyderabadi goat dum biryani combines goat, basmati rice and spices in a slow-cooked preparation. Dum cooking retains steam inside the cooking vessel, allowing the meat, rice and seasonings to cook together. Basmati’s long, fragrant grains are an important part of this style. Vegetable biryani gives the seasoned rice a meatless preparation, while chicken biryani supplies the poultry version. These are complete rice dishes, with flavor worked into the grains rather than supplied only by a curry spooned over them.
Butter chicken and chicken curry broaden the sauced cooking. Butter chicken is the familiar creamy preparation, traditionally built around chicken in a tomato-and-butter gravy. The separate chicken curry adds another choice among the main dishes, with naan available to accompany both. Together with the biryanis, they give the buffet several ways to build a meal around chicken without repeating the same preparation.
Chicken 65 brings a South Indian fried-chicken preparation to the spread. Seasoned, bite-sized pieces make it quite different from either the curries or the rice dishes. Tandoori offerings bring clay-oven cooking into the buffet as well, and fish has also appeared among the savory choices. Those preparations broaden the meat and seafood selection beyond the named chicken curries.
Chana masala, also commonly called chole, gives chickpeas a main-course role among the vegetarian dishes. Whole chickpeas simmer in a spiced sauce, keeping their distinct shape and texture. Alongside vegetable biryani, it provides both a pulse-based curry and a seasoned rice dish for diners choosing vegetarian food. Naan supplies the soft, leavened bread for gathering the chana and its sauce.
Samosas and pani puri introduce two very different Indian snacks. Samosas are filled pastry pockets, fried to give them a crisp shell. Pani puri uses hollow, crisp puris served with a filling and seasoned water. The filled puri is usually eaten promptly, before the liquid softens its shell. That contrast between a delicate, crunchy casing and the seasoned liquid is central to the snack, rather than an accompaniment to a larger curry dish.
Salad and fruit provide simpler accompaniments, with lettuce and onion among the salad ingredients and grapes and cut oranges in the fruit selection. They sit alongside the more extensively cooked and seasoned dishes rather than defining the spread.
Mango custard brings a creamy, fruit-flavored sweet to dessert. Gulab jamun offers small fried, milk-based sweets soaked in syrup, giving them their characteristic soft texture. Ice cream and cotton candy have also been part of buffet service, adding a frozen dessert and a playful confection to the finish.
