Carved Animals at Boma

Lake Buena Vista, Florida | Photography by Buffet Authority

Boma – Flavors of Africa occupies the lower level of Jambo House at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge, where the restaurant was designed to resemble a lively African marketplace. That atmosphere extends well beyond the buffet itself, with carved forms, textured surfaces, pottery, railings and animal imagery layered throughout the surrounding space.

Among those details are these carved animal figures: an elephant in the foreground with a lion positioned just behind it. They sit almost casually within the dessert station, the sort of decorative element that can disappear into the larger spectacle of Animal Kingdom Lodge unless you stop and look closely.

The figures also fit naturally within a resort whose public spaces are filled with African art and cultural objects, even though the specific origin or artist of these particular carvings is not prominently documented. At Boma, they contribute to the overall atmosphere: wildlife, craft and marketplace imagery surrounding a buffet built around African-inspired flavors.
