Applewood Farmhouse Dinner
Sevierville, Tennessee | Photography by Buffet Authority
Applewood Farmhouse Restaurant is part of the sprawling Apple Barn complex in Sevierville, Tennessee, a longtime orchard property that grew into a collection of restaurants, shops, cider, sweets and other apple-centered traditions. The farmhouse restaurant itself has become one of the complex's signatures, pairing Southern comfort food with a style of service built around abundance.
Dinner entrées come with a collection of farmhouse side dishes that can be refilled throughout the meal, making the table feel almost buffet-like even though the entrées are ordered individually. This spread included fried chicken livers, slow-roasted pot roast and crab cakes, surrounded by collard greens, macaroni and cheese, mashed potatoes with gravy and other sides. The chicken livers were especially memorable, but the pot roast and crab cake were excellent as well.
Also pictured are Applewood's signature Applewood Juleps, the fruity house drink served with meals. Missing from the photograph are two other signatures: the apple fritters and apple butter. They had already disappeared by the time anyone remembered to take the picture, which may be the most accurate possible record of an Applewood dinner.
