Sun Sushi and Grill Plans AYCE Restaurant in Former Phoenix AZ Cantina

A 5,750-square-foot proposal would bring sushi to a longtime West Greenway Road restaurant address.

An all-you-can-eat sushi-and-grill restaurant is being planned for a west Phoenix address with a long restaurant history. Sun Sushi and Grill All You Can Eat has been named in a pending liquor-license application for 3301 W. Greenway Road, the former home of Top Shelf Mexican Food & Cantina.

What Now Phoenix reported October 1 that the applicant is Sun Sushi LLC, with Junjin Li identified as owner and manager. The plans describe approximately 5,750 square feet, including a dining room, dedicated sushi bar, kitchen, waiting area, bar and liquor storage, plus an outdoor patio. Neither a drive-through nor a walk-up window is proposed.

The change at this particular address is substantial. Top Shelf served its Phoenix customers there from 1984 until announcing that the location would close at the end of January 2026. That is more than four decades of Mexican dinners and cantina visits before an entirely different type of restaurant began taking shape in the same space.

The building plans reveal more than the food plans do, at least so far. Although the new business has “All You Can Eat” in its name, no public menu, price tiers or operating hours accompanied the application. The reporting does not establish whether sushi will be ordered by round, whether grilled dishes will be included in the basic AYCE price, or how the restaurant intends to use that separate sushi bar. Those are meaningful blanks for anyone deciding whether the visit calls for a quick lunch or a longer evening.

Renovations were underway when the application was reported. It listed October 20 as an estimated construction-completion date, not a restaurant opening date; completion has not been independently confirmed. A liquor-license application also is not the same thing as an approval to open.

For now, Sun Sushi is a coming-soon prospect rather than an operating AYCE destination. The address and proposed layout are on paper. What remains to be seen is the actual menu, the price of admission and, most importantly, when the first plates will reach the tables.
