EXPERIENCE
Takumi Hibachi Sushi & Seafood Buffet is a Chinese-led buffet in Humble, with sushi, hot dishes and a staffed hibachi counter. Seafood is a substantial part of its appeal, especially when oysters and snow crab join the weekend spread. The meal still has plenty of interest beyond shellfish, from glazed chicken and noodles to a bowl of hot-and-sour soup.
The entrance is hard to mistake: TAKUMI BUFFET appears in red above a substantial arched portico, with orange-tiled roof sections extending to either side. It’s an expansive introduction to a spacious dining room, where separate steam-table islands allow a little room around the food. That grand entrance doesn’t require a grand plan for dinner; lunch and supper are casual, self-service affairs.
The hibachi counter adds a cooked-to-order element to the prepared buffet dishes. Chicken from the counter can be part of a meal that also includes sushi or Chinese hot food, and hibachi remains available during the smaller lunch selection. A counter order adds a small pause to consider what the cooks are preparing alongside the pans.
On FM 1960 Road East, Takumi uses a Humble address, though some local listings place it in Atascocita. Its broad dining room and substantial entrance give it the feel of a restaurant intended for a proper sit-down meal. Soup, sushi and hot dishes can all have their moment, with fruit or ice cream available for a simple finish.
FOOD
Saturday and Sunday are the days to put snow crab and oysters on the agenda at Takumi. Both are advertised all day on the weekend, alongside the Chinese hot dishes, sushi and staffed hibachi counter. That makes this more than a meal spent working through shellfish, although nobody is going to be surprised if the crab gets your attention first.
The changing seafood selection also includes creamy baked mussels and squid salad. A mussel with its rich topping is quite a different mouthful from the cooler salad, and both are worth noticing between helpings of crab. The exact spread varies by service; the weekend crab-and-oyster offering is the clearest distinction when deciding which day to visit.
General Tso’s chicken brings a sweet glaze to the hot counter, with lo mein, rice noodles and fried rice among the accompaniments. These are familiar Chinese-buffet dishes, and they make a perfectly reasonable lunch without a single crab shell involved. A little chicken and noodles can also be a welcome break during a seafood-focused dinner. There is no need to make the entire plate follow the weekend headline.
The hibachi counter gives you something prepared to order, including chicken, beef and vegetable combinations. It remains part of the smaller lunch offering, so a midday visit still includes a stop where the cooking happens in front of you. Keep it in mind before collecting a full plate from the ready-made pans; a fresh counter order is easier to enjoy when you have left room for it.
Sushi adds another option, with California rolls among the changing selection. They can make a small course of their own before the hot food. Hot-and-sour soup, dumplings and fried appetizers offer another way to begin, especially when you would rather settle in with a bowl before returning for a larger plate.
Fruit and ice cream round out the meal. After creamy mussels, glazed chicken and perhaps a little more shellfish than originally planned, the finish can stay simple. A small bowl of ice cream is quite enough of a closing argument.
