AJ’s Sushi & Cajun Seafood in Suffern, New York, has announced that October 26 will be its final day in business. The restaurant at 8 North Airmont Road shared the news October 14, giving its AYCE sushi regulars time for another visit before the doors close.
It is always sad to lose a place where another round of sushi is part of the plan. AJ’s has offered unlimited sushi, sashimi and maki rolls, along with dishes such as shrimp and vegetable tempura and salads. For diners who made it a regular stop, there is still a little time to return to their favorites.
In its message to customers, the restaurant thanked longtime visitors and the friendships formed along the way, and invited people to come in once more before closing. Daily Voice reported the announcement October 15. The owners have not publicly given a reason for the closure.
The Suffern restaurant’s history reaches back to 2017. That August, brokerage Royal Properties announced that AJ’s had signed a ten-year lease, with options, for a 3,300-square-foot former restaurant space on North Airmont Road. A September 18 post from AJ’s advertised that it was open, placing its arrival in the neighborhood roughly nine years before the announced farewell.
The lease announcement also documented a separate AJ’s project in Nyack. The current closure news concerns the Suffern restaurant on North Airmont Road, just off Exit 14B of the New York State Thruway. The brokerage described a property with on-site parking for 70 cars.
AJ’s is also inviting customers to share their email information for future updates. There is no confirmed next restaurant to announce, but the invitation leaves a way for regulars to stay connected with the team.
For now, October 26 is the date to keep in mind. We will miss having AJ’s among Suffern’s AYCE choices, and wish its team well with whatever comes next.
