Slidell has a new place to settle in for hot pot, order another round of sushi and work hibachi into the same meal. LA Hot Pot & Sushi celebrated its grand opening and ribbon cutting October 15 at 798 East I-10 Service Road, following a September 20 soft opening.
The East St. Tammany Business Alliance scheduled the ceremony for 11 a.m. to noon. For buffet fans who had already visited, this was the official welcome for a restaurant that had been feeding the neighborhood for several weeks.
The restaurant advertises adult AYCE lunch at $22.99 and dinner at $33.99, with the dinner menu served all day Sunday. Its posted children’s prices are $12.99 at lunch and $17.99 at dinner for ages 7–10, and $7.99 at lunch and $12.99 at dinner for ages 3–6.
Hot pot gives diners a choice of broth and ingredients to cook at the table, along with the chance to make their own dipping sauce. The restaurant’s menu posts name tomato, miso, pork bone and matsutake mushroom among the broth options. That makes the first decision worth a little thought, especially when everyone at the table has opinions about soup.
Sushi and hibachi broaden the offering beyond the simmering pot. The restaurant promotes all three as part of its AYCE experience, giving a group room to follow different cravings over the course of dinner. A visit can include both food cooked at the table and dishes prepared by the kitchen.
The building has a restaurant history of its own. Property documents and older business listings identify the address as a former Ruby Tuesday, while a commercial leasing brochure describes a freestanding, 5,266-square-foot restaurant building. It is a familiar dining stop getting a fresh use, this time with considerably more hot pot.
