Magic Sushi is planned for the former Chili’s at Beaver Creek Commons in Apex, North Carolina, bringing an all-you-can-eat sushi-and-hibachi concept to another familiar chain-restaurant building.

October 2 reporting from WRAL contributor Sean Lennard identified Magic Sushi’s sign at the former Chili’s. The shopping center’s landlord tenant schedule also names Magic Sushi, listing a 5,754-square-foot space. The former Chili’s address is 1120 Beaver Creek Commons Drive.

The planned address is in the same Beaver Creek shopping area where Chili’s served for years. An opening date and local prices have not yet been announced.

The concept has an operating predecessor in Charlotte’s University City area. At 517 University Center Boulevard, Magic Sushi offers AYCE sushi and hibachi as well as à-la-carte ordering. Its official website says the two ordering formats cannot be combined.

Charlotte’s current adult prices are $16.99 for weekday lunch and $26.99 for dinner, with dinner pricing throughout the weekend. Those figures describe the original restaurant; prices for Apex have not been published.

The original restaurant’s broader menu spans nigiri and sashimi, gyoza, tempura, hibachi dishes, udon and specialty rolls. Its website also provides separate vegan and gluten-free menu links. Those are features of the Charlotte operation; the forthcoming Apex menu will establish the local selection.

Magic Sushi’s own history began with a change of format. In May 2023, Charlotte’s Blacow Burger & Sushi Bar closed its University City restaurant and reopened it as Magic Sushi. The Charlotte Observer reported a May 3 closure followed by a May 8 reopening, shifting the restaurant’s emphasis from burgers and sushi toward unlimited Japanese dining.

The Apex site has its own established restaurant history. Mayor Jacques Gilbert’s closure announcement described Chili’s as having served the community for 22 years. Magic Sushi would bring a new dining operation to that same Beaver Creek address.

The Charlotte restaurant’s prices and menu give Apex diners a useful preview while the local opening takes shape. After 22 years of Chili’s at this address, the next restaurant is proposing a rather different answer to the question of how much sushi to order.
