Unlimited sashimi joins sushi at Mr. Tokyo Premium, the new Japanese restaurant taking over Charlotte’s former 37 SOL space in Steele Creek. The restaurant announced an October 7 soft opening and an October 12–14 grand opening at 8724 Outlets Boulevard, near Charlotte Premium Outlets, according to CharlotteFive’s October 6 report.
The restaurant’s website puts sushi, nigiri and sashimi alongside ramen and hibachi in its made-to-order AYCE offering. That gives the person who would happily spend the entire meal on salmon some company from the person who would rather order steak.
A little lobster a little gold
The published menu takes the Premium part of the name quite literally in places. The namesake roll starts with tempura shrimp and cucumber, then adds lobster, avocado, crunch and black tobiko. A wagyu roll combines cucumber, avocado and asparagus with seared wagyu and gold flake. Subtlety has apparently been excused from that particular order.
The website advertises unlimited specialty sushi, though the menu also carries individual item prices. It has not spelled out every dish’s AYCE eligibility or which selections are dinner-only.
There are less ornamented choices, too. The nigiri and sashimi section includes salmon, tuna, yellowtail, eel, octopus and squid. The ramen choices include pork and seafood preparations, while the kitchen lists steak, chicken and shrimp in hibachi and teriyaki styles. CharlotteFive also reports a full sake bar.
The price and the new address
Adult lunch is listed at $21.99 and dinner at $34.99. For children ages 3–6, the posted prices are $10.99 and $15.99; ages 7–10 are $13.99 and $18.99. Weekend rates and the full differences between lunch and dinner selections are not detailed in the price panel.
The address previously belonged to 37 SOL, a southwest kitchen and tequila bar that opened December 1, 2017, after nine months of acquisition, design and construction, according to developer Sageworth Properties. A Bull Realty sale announcement from that period describes approximately 6,000 square feet on 1.28 acres.
Published hours are 11 a.m.–3 p.m. and 4–9 p.m. Sunday through Thursday, with dinner running until 10 p.m. Friday and Saturday. The October 12–14 grand-opening dates are next on the announced schedule.
