East 88 Buffet opened August 12 in Owensboro, bringing sushi, hibachi and a broad Chinese-American spread to the former Mikato Steak and Sushi space. General Tso’s chicken shares the lineup with pizza, roast beef and wings, so there is room for a few different appetites at the table.
The restaurant is at 3500 Villa Point, Suite 103, along the KY 54 corridor. Mikato closed earlier in 2026, and signs for East 88 appeared in May. Owensboro Times reported the Wednesday opening after speaking with manager Carol Zhao.
Sushi first, or straight to the hibachi
Sushi and customized hibachi keep a bit of the address’s Japanese dining background in the meal. The hibachi station cooks to order, while the buffet offers a much wider range of Chinese and American favorites.
Opening coverage described onion rings, seafood and ice cream alongside the chicken, pizza and roast beef. It is the sort of spread where a sushi plate can be followed by something hot from the grill, with a few onion rings along for the ride.
The restaurant’s menu currently lists adult lunch at $13.99 until 3:30 p.m. and dinner at $16.99. Sunday is $16.99 all day. Children ages four through nine are listed at $10.99 for lunch and $12.99 for dinner.
When the restaurant opened, Zhao also quoted takeout boxes at $13.99 for a small box and $18.99 for a large one.
East 88 opens at 11 a.m. and closes at 9:30 p.m. Sunday through Thursday, staying open until 10 p.m. Friday and Saturday. The former steak-and-sushi stop now has a much bigger menu to explore, whether lunch starts with a roll or a plate from the hibachi.
