Feil’s Supper Club in Randolph closed September 5 as the family retired after 57 years. Along with the supper club itself, the closure ends two longstanding buffet dates: Sunday brunch and Germanfest on the last Saturday of the month.
The family’s farewell announcement thanked customers for years of business and friendship after four generations of involvement. Retirement was the reason given for the final Saturday service.
Feil’s began in 1969, when the family acquired the former Club 73 at N8743 WI-73. Its German background shaped the food and its emphasis on gemütlichkeit, the warmth and good cheer of gathering around a table.
From Sunday omelets to Saturday rouladen
Sunday brunch covered a good deal of ground. Made-to-order omelets, eggs Benedict and French toast shared the meal with broasted chicken, baked haddock, ham and beef tips. Goulash, salads and rolls filled out the menu, with cinnamon rolls and éclairs for the sweet end of things.
Germanfest brought rouladen, Jäger schnitzel, sauerbraten and stuffed cabbage, joined by spaetzle, German potato salad, potato pancakes, red cabbage and rye rolls. A 15-foot soup and salad bar was included. It was a regular place on the calendar for a meal built around the family’s German specialties.
The restaurant’s remaining menu pages list both buffets at $20 for adults and $10 for children under ten. Sunday brunch ran from 10:30 a.m. to 2 p.m.; Germanfest was listed from 4:30 to 9 p.m. on the last Saturday of each month.
Friday fish fry and prime rib were part of Feil’s supper-club life, too. Sunday brunch and the monthly Germanfest gave diners two more reasons to gather, with very different meals waiting on the line.
September 5 closed the book on all of them, ending a family restaurant whose Sunday breakfast could stretch well into dinner territory and whose last Saturday meant a German feast.
