Sun Sushi and Grill is preparing an all-you-can-eat restaurant in a West Phoenix space that spent decades serving Mexican food. The project is planned for 3301 W. Greenway Road, the former Top Shelf Mexican Food & Cantina.
What Now Phoenix reported the project October 1, citing a pending restaurant liquor-license application. Its account identifies Junjin Li as owner and manager through Sun Sushi LLC.
The reported plans describe a 5,750-square-foot restaurant with a dining room, sushi bar, kitchen, waiting area, bar, liquor storage and outdoor patio. Renovation work is underway.
The application’s estimated completion date is October 20. That refers to construction; an opening date has not been announced.
Top Shelf’s West Phoenix location announced its closure at the end of January after operating at the address since 1984. The restaurant’s own social page carried the closure announcement, marking the end of a long chapter for that corner.
A menu, prices and operating hours have not been announced. The precise ordering format also remains unclear, including what the AYCE meal will include and how sushi and other dishes will be served.
