Rapid City’s former Denny’s at 2206 N. LaCrosse Street is now Hot Pot Spot, an all-you-can-eat restaurant where diners cook their meal in broth at the table. The restaurant identifies September 7 as its grand opening.
The Rapid City restaurant advertises 11 broths and nine sliced-meat choices, alongside seafood, vegetables, tofu, mushrooms and noodles. Its published adult weekday lunch price is $27.99 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.; dinner is $33.99. Daily operating hours are 11 a.m. to 9 p.m.
Broth options include tonkotsu simmered for 12 hours, Sichuan mala and Vietnamese canh chua. The range gives guests different starting points for the same cooking method, from pork broth to a spicy Sichuan option and a sour Vietnamese soup.
The meat selection includes ribeye, short rib, brisket, lamb shoulder and pork belly. Thin slices cook in the hot broth, while vegetables, noodles and other ingredients let diners assemble successive combinations during the meal.
A sauce bar with more than 20 components adds another layer of choice. Hot pot regulars can devote quite a bit of attention to that small bowl: it determines how the next cooked slice or dumpling tastes once it leaves the pot.
A Colorado restaurant group reaches Rapid City
The operator’s website lists Rapid City alongside Thornton, Fort Collins and Longmont. Its Colorado roots reach back to the Thornton restaurant, which celebrated its grand opening March 30, 2023.
Westword’s coverage of that original restaurant identified co-owners Amber Tran, Cameron Deng and Kam Chan. The family’s restaurant experience went back further, including the Wonderful House Chinese restaurant in Nebraska, operated by immigrant parents from 1992 to 2009.
The published $27.99 lunch period is specifically Monday through Friday; weekend lunch pricing should be checked directly.
