Red Lobster Closes in Sandusky, OH, After Four Decades

The Milan Road shutdown follows another year of contraction for the national seafood chain.

September 30, 2026 • Ohio • BY BUFFET AUTHORITY

Red Lobster’s Sandusky, OH, restaurant closed September 21, ending a run that reporting dates to 1985.

The restaurant was at 4016 Milan Road. The U.S. Sun reported that callers heard a closure message thanking customers and directing them to other locations. Its account also identified the building’s earlier restaurant tenant, The Market, whose existing space was adapted for Red Lobster.

A local shutdown within a smaller chain

The closure follows a broader reduction in Red Lobster’s footprint. Nation’s Restaurant News reported on September 8 that the company’s website listed 484 U.S. restaurants, down from 520 at the end of 2025. That was a decline of 36 locations, or about 7%, before the Sandusky shutdown.

The trade publication quoted the company describing the closure of underperforming restaurants as part of its longer-term strategy. Red Lobster has continued reducing its estate following its 2024 bankruptcy while also investing in restaurant refreshes and service improvements under CEO Damola Adamolekun.

That national strategy supplies context, but it does not establish the particular reason the Milan Road restaurant closed. No location-specific explanation or replacement tenant has been confirmed in the reporting reviewed.

The restaurant’s retained official webpage still displays daily hours. Those undated details conflict with the closure report and may be stale; the page should not be treated as confirmation that service continues.

Endless Shrimp remains part of the surviving brand

Red Lobster traces its beginnings to Bill Darden’s 1968 restaurant in Lakeland, FL. Its company history describes an effort to make seafood available to a broad audience, including diners far from the coast.

For all-you-can-eat diners, the chain’s continuing story also includes Endless Shrimp. A company announcement brought the offer back for a limited time beginning April 20, 2026. The return places unlimited shrimp within a promotional calendar even as the restaurant network gets smaller.

No evidence establishes a link between the Sandusky closure and the shrimp promotion. What happens next at the Milan Road property also remains unresolved: no replacement use for the building has been confirmed in the sources reviewed.
