El Tesoro’s South Downtown restaurant in Atlanta, GA, has added a recurring Sunday Mexican brunch buffet, with a $36 adult price that includes nonalcoholic drinks.
The first dated advertised service was September 13. The restaurant at 171 Mitchell Street SW now lists brunch every Sunday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Children under 10 are $16, and alcoholic beverages are available for an additional charge.
Chilaquiles, mole and a taco bar
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution’s September 12 preview described chilaquiles, enchiladas with housemade mole and a taco bar. The restaurant’s current event listing describes a selection of Mexican buffet dishes and specifies that the regular menu will not be served during brunch.
That gives the weekly service its own place in the restaurant’s schedule. Diners arrive for the buffet during those four hours, with the included nonalcoholic drinks making the posted price more complete than a food-only brunch charge.
There is one scheduling detail worth checking against older coverage: the AJC preview listed 11 a.m.–3 p.m. The operator’s current page and the dated Discover Atlanta listing both give 10 a.m.–2 p.m.
A new service at the group’s newest restaurant
South Downtown opened in June 2026 as El Tesoro’s third and largest restaurant, following its Edgewood and West End locations. The opening came ahead of Atlanta’s World Cup matches, bringing the group into a renovated historic building that had previously stood vacant.
The buffet adds another dining format to that expansion. It is a new September service at an existing restaurant, and the advertised program belongs specifically to the South Downtown branch.
El Tesoro’s official history traces the business to a 14-seat counter-service operation in 2018. Owner Alan Raines and chef de cuisine Mayra Vazquez developed the restaurant around Guerrero family cooking, with recipes associated with Cristina and her aunt Elia.
That background gives the brunch menu a clear connection to the wider restaurant. The buffet brings the mole, enchiladas and tacos into a recurring Sunday spread, with room on the plate to return to whichever dish made the strongest first impression.
