The Cicis at 12822 I-10 West in San Antonio has closed, ending a roughly two-decade run for the pizza buffet near De Zavala Road.
The shutdown surfaced publicly in a Sept. 27 local Reddit discussion, where a visitor reported finding a notice on the door directing customers to other Cicis restaurants and thanking the community for 21 years. Google now marks the restaurant permanently closed, and the strongest confirmation comes from Cicis itself: the chain’s current San Antonio locator no longer includes the I-10 store.
Four Cicis Restaurants Remain in San Antonio
Cicis’ official San Antonio location page currently lists four restaurants – on Bandera Road, SW Military Drive, West Loop 1604 North and San Pedro Avenue. The former I-10 restaurant is absent, and its old direct location URL now routes visitors back toward the broader San Antonio location search rather than presenting it as an active store.
The reported 21-year message would place the restaurant’s origin around the mid-2000s. Buffet Authority located city documentation confirming Cicis at the same Building 2, Suite 201 address by at least 2016, along with numerous older restaurant listings and reviews, but did not find a reliable contemporary source establishing the exact opening day. The safest description is the one the door notice itself provides: a 21-year run, according to the message seen by customers.
The location operated in the familiar Cicis format – an unlimited pizza, pasta, salad and dessert buffet built around frequent small-batch pizzas coming out of the oven. For generations of chain-buffet regulars, Cicis has also occupied a particular niche: inexpensive abundance, cinnamon rolls, and the quiet confidence that another slice is only a lap away.
No Replacement Has Been Announced
Buffet Authority did not locate a permit, landlord announcement, restaurant filing or other credible report identifying a replacement for Suite 201 as of Sept. 28. There is other restaurant activity at the same 12822 W. I-10 retail address, but in different suites; for example, Teriyaki Madness is listed in Suite 206 and is not replacing the former Cicis space.
No verified reason for the Cicis closure has been announced either. Online discussion includes speculation about rent and operating costs, but Buffet Authority could not corroborate those claims and is not treating them as established fact.
What can now be stated with confidence is simpler: the I-10 Cicis is gone, the chain’s own live locator has removed it, and San Antonio is down to four Cicis restaurants. Some third-party menu and review pages still show the old store as active, a reminder that restaurant closures often happen faster than the internet cleans up after them.
